PS3 Firmware V3.50 Released

For those of you with a 3D TV and something 3D on Blu-ray it's a day to celebrate. I guess you could all get together and have a small dinner party.

Yes Sony has today released the latest firmware update for PlayStation 3. Version 3.50 adds support for 3D Blu-ray playback.

There are a few other fixes too:

  • 3D Blu-Ray support
  • PS Move can be used for web browser control
  • Users reports can be sent from PS3 through the Friends tab
  • 3D notification screen for 3D enabled games
  • Access to your Facebook profile
  • Better description of the 14 most common errors
  • Updated user interface for PlayStation Plus in PlayStation Store
  • New Qriocity icon in the Music section. Service still unavailable (EU only)

PS3 3D Blu-ray Support Next Week

Sony says that the PlayStation 3 firmware will be updated next week to support playback of 3D Blu-ray movies.

Firmware v3.5 will arrive on September 21st.

"We know that many consumers have purchased 3D TVs already and more of you will be purchasing them as the holidays approach – so we’re excited to offer this firmware update that makes all 38 million PS3s worldwide compatible with Blu-ray 3D discs." - said Sony's Eric Lemple.

Do you know anyone with a 3D TV? I'd love to make the jump to 3D, but having invested in a 46" plasma just one year ago it seems a bit soon to be buying yet another television.
