Mass Effect 2 via PSN - How Fuckin' Much?

Excuse the language, but what in Jebus' name is going on here? Yes you can now download Mass Effect 2 for PlayStation 3 via PSN but it will cost you €60 in the Eurozone and £48 here in the UK.
Are EA/Sony barking mad? You can buy the game for less than a tenner for Xbox 360.
And even if you're mad enough to stump up nearly fifty quid for the game you're going to need 24GB free hard drive space, half for the download, half for the install. Given the awful speed of PSN downloads (ever rented a HD movie from there?) it would be quicker to buy the game from Amazon and wait for the postie to deliver it.
It must be the end times. That'll be why I saw toothless old hags fighting each other for reduced-to-clear green meat in Tesco this morning.

This has to be some kind of cock-up surely! If the download times on PSN are as bad as I hear, this means that a large portion of people could a) pay £48 and sit and wait for a download or
Jump in the car, drive to their nearest retailer (probably the local supermarket) pay £39.90 (current price in Tesco) and be back home playing before the download/install/update cycle had completed.
So it's not even like they can claim a premium price for speed and ease of purchasing.
