NBA Elite 11 Hands-on Preview
August 27th, 2010 / Send feedback » / by Harry

Yesterday I was invited over to Electronic Arts to play NBA Elite 11. I used to be quite a fan of basketball games but I grew bored of their lack of evolution and more importantly player involvement.
Can EA Sports turn around the malaise in the genre and create a basketball game that will appeal to gamers who may not be fans of the sport?
Well, let's see...

Rock Band 3 Tracklist Officially Announced
August 25th, 2010 / Send feedback » / by Harry

We've had leaks aplenty, but now the full tracklist for Rock Band 3 has finally been officially announced.
"The Rock Band 3 soundtrack represents the strongest, most diverse collection of music ever assembled for a video game," said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Games. "The addition of keyboards and vocal harmonies to the Rock Band platform massively broadens the music selection available to our players. You haven’t sung Queen's epic Bohemian Rhapsody unless you’ve sung the harmony parts - and you can’t do that unless you have Rock Band 3."
Rock Band 3 will be released October 26th in North America and Oct 29th in the rest of the world on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

FIFA Will Beat Pro Evo 2011 - EA Europe Boss
August 20th, 2010 / Send feedback » / by Harry

Electronic Arts European boss Jens Uwe Intat says that FIFA will retain its dominance over the rival Pro Evo franchise this year.
"Our games just get better and better ? we have a clearly superior product to Konami, which I think wasn’t the case in the previous generation," Intat said. "Consumers ? and even journalists ? have come to understand this and the improvements we make; that all adds up to building market share there."
While FIFA has been clearly better than the last few Pro Evo releases this year looks like it might be a closer fight.
We'll find out when FIFA 11 is released on October 1st (Sept 28th in US) and PES 2011 on October 8th.

Tony Hawk SHRED for Kids?
August 16th, 2010 / Send feedback » / by Harry

Activision has finally gotten around to officially announcing SHRED, the follow up to the last really terrible Tony Hawk game - which was so bad the name of it has fallen out of my memory. I do remember how bad it was though, it really stank.
But perhaps the new game will be pretty good. However aiming it just at ankle-biters does hint that it may not be.

Australian Price Wars
May 26th, 2010 / Send feedback » / by Harry

This morning we've a guest editorial from Drift Gaming's Bryce Wilson. Bryce quite rightly is angry at the way Australian gamers have to pay much more for games in the US. Here in the UK we already pay over the odds compared to the folks across the pond - but Bryce and his Australian compatriots really are screwed by the games industry.
From its humble beginnings in the form of a single basic game; Tennis for Two, video games and the video game industry are now a billion dollar enterprise. Many games now sell more than movies and more often than not some games can make more than most companies after launch. This editorial is a brief look at the ever increasing cost of games and the attempts by vendors to undercut each other and make a quick buck.
The problem however for us consumers is the price of products. With some titles costing more than half a week's rent, when does the cost start to over weigh the benefit. Going to the cinemas for example costs in Australia around 13-15 dollars. This is for about ninety minutes and assuming the movie is good, we walk away happy customers. A new release game in Australia can cost generally $100 upwards. The same title could be getting sold in America for $50-60 AUD or even being sold online for $40-50.
